Avoidance...
Everyone may feel some anxiety before a first date, but the
person with an anxiety disorder may avoid dating. Their anxiety may become so common and intense that they
prefer to stay home and miss out on so many wonderful things in life. Some anxious people become a prisoner
in their own home.
Anxiety comes in different forms but the treatment is the
same. Some people feel a general sense of nervousness or dread everyday with no apparent reason for the
fear.
Over time this chronic fear can cause sleep problems,
relationship problems and can deteriorate your health. These people are controlled by their fear and unable
to enjoy their lives as they deserve.
Others have sudden episodes of intense fear, often
called "panic attacks" which can be quite frightening.
During one of these attacks, people feel out of control and
often worry they are having a heart attack or are going crazy. Many have gone to a hospital emergency room
thinking there was something terribly wrong with them. After a thorough examination they are told nothing is
wrong, it was simply anxiety. These people often become very afraid of having another attack and will avoid
going back to places where an attack has occurred. It is easy to see how debilitating this can be and how
these people will desperately search for a "cure".
